i think that this story is very vague to me . the only thing that instrest me is to see what hapens to her. i think that this book is headed for a ending im not prepare for. there isnt any quotes that come to mind when i think of this book. my song is NOT AFRAID by Eminem
ReplyDeleteKCHA7-So far I think the story is Empowering. I feel that as an African American( as a person in general) I should know my history. What intrigues me so much about this book is how Melba is so strong, and no matter what anyone throws at her or says to her she continues to fight for what she wants and what she believes in. I appreciate her as a person and as a inspiration to all people who believe in fighting for what they believe. I think this book is heading in a amazing directions because of it's impact on history. one of my favorites quotes from this book is," Good is always with you." I like this quote because it applies to my faith and my beliefs.
ReplyDelete(JBOO6) I think the story is tragic. The thing that intrigues me is that the judge let the black people go to a white school or vice versa. I think someone is going to get hurt. No quote intrests me. >>>> Go to youtube and type in Beres Hammond- Warriors Don't Cry- Warriors Don't Cry Riddim
ReplyDeleteMace7- To me this story is upsetting, yet it is enforcing that racism can be cruel and terrible. What intrigues me is that Melba,no matter what wanted to get into that school, though, afterward didn't want to participate in it any longer due to racism. Even though she can be strong, she can be scared just like any other person. We all have it, we all can show that we are strong but on this inside we are all scared. This book really moves me because it puts such an impact on the reader. Reading this book just makes me sick inside. It gives you the feeling of being Melba and how racism is disgustingly terrible. The one quote the interests me is when Melba's Grandmother always says "Warriors don't cry". That just makes me feel like I should always keep my head up, stand tall and be a better person. ReplyDeleteI think that this book is very intense and may affect the life of some people. i also think that intergrating the school to show that black kids are as just as smart as the white kids. personally i would not go to this school to put my life in danger. The character that got my attention was Melba She is one crazy chick to go to that school and receive deatht threats she still never cried and was scared at points but never showed it. from here i think that the story is going down hill its going to get worse. she is going to encounter bad things and still will not give up. she is a crazy person who will never let anything in her way. "God is always with you" because its something said all through out the story. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v9DpPOsWNdQ
(mmye6) so far this story has my intrest. But only at some points it has my full attention. Like so far when Melba was getting chased my an angry mob. At that point and time it was crazy to hear what they were doing to her. what intruges me is what they have been doing to her. Like getting threaten to be hung and all the terrible things that were said to her. I think the book is headed for a very unexpected ending. A specific line that intrest me is when Melbas grandma tells her god is always with her. It does because it always keeps Melba strong. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YpQk9MMSYEk Home Sweet Home-Carrie Underwood. Melba is determined just like the song is determined because there on there way home.

ReplyDeletei think that this book is very intense and will get worse and brutial. melba is a crazy chick who just wants to prove trhat her kind which is black people are smart as white people. i think this story is heading for a downfall. personally i would not be found in awhite school back then you wouldnt pay me 100 dollars to go to thats school. Melba was never scared ,well she was she just never shows it my favorite quote is "God is always with you"http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v9DpPOsWNdQ

ReplyDeleteI think that this book is a strong civil rights times book.....
acuv5 I think the story is very inspiring because it shows what people are going threw and it shows how things used to be. It disgusts me on how racist people are. They are people too, just because theyre skin is a different color doesnt mean they are different. The song I chose is Where is the Love by Black Eyed Peas because they are trying to get everyone together which Melba was trying to do in the story www.youtube.com/watch?v=WpYeekQkAdc

ReplyDeletenk that this book is very down to earth. Not just because it is a true story but because it tells the story of someone brave that fought for integration. I think the book will have a very powerful moral from Melba's veiw. The book is very strong and i like to try and put my self in the place of the main characters place. That is very hard to do in this book considering that i have not lived during the time of integration.

ReplyDeleteIn my opinion this book doesn't seem to make me want to read it like a book should. It only shows one perspective from a wide range of different outlooks. I think if the book didn't just talk negative on everything it'd be more interesting. But the bad things that were happening are true and that's I think the saddest part of everything knowing that a time before now people were treated so poorly just because of their race.
A song that I think about constantly while reading this book is "If I Die Young" by The Band Perry. Heres a link to it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c0iEj7alzAI

ReplyDeleteso far this story is interesting.melba just wants to be like everyone else and be treated fairly.i think that this storys ending is going to be intresting maybe unexpected.personly if i was her i wouldnt even go to school i would be a failer because i would want to be treated this way but at the same time i understand why she did what she did.

"temporary home"
melba just wants to be happy and this song explanes feelings that she could of had.
Rbaj5 I think the story is really good at this point. I know that there is alot more that is going to happen. The book really speaks to me. It shows how life was like back then for blacks, it shows all the terror and pain they went trough. But some people like Melba and her friends wanted to make a difference and change there life even though they new what could happen if they wanted to intergrate the school. They knew about the treats and the danger but they wanted a change.
ReplyDeleteThis is the song i picked. Warriors song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F9upl_7-uW0

ReplyDeletethe book talks about important issues that affected the lives of many people. it is very upsetting to hear about the pain and sadness that africans went through. they had their freedom, but in a way they didn't. they were very segregated and limited to their options. i think the book is headed into melba standing up for herself and everyone. no lines or quotes stand out to me. the song i chose is where is the love by the black eyed peas. it talks about segregation and how we need to love each other.

ReplyDeleteThis is a very disturbing book. Just knowing the fact that people can be so cruel and events like these happened all the time. Discrimination is still all over today. I feel like this story is going to have a twist at the end and something completely different is going to happen. The lines that stick out to me the most are when Grandmother India is telling Melba that warriors don't cry and the women in her family don't just give up. The song that reminds me of this book is Louder Than Thunder by The Devil Wears Prada. This song talks about things being peaceful and how people should be treated well.

ReplyDeleteso far i feel that this book talks abuot how hard it was for the african americans had it when it came down to racism. It must be so hard that when you walk outside everyday you get criticized.

ReplyDeleteSo far the book is very plain. There really hasnt been any big events happen. All they talk about is how there are 9 black kids trying to go into an all white school. I think the book is heading into more of the same, talking about integration. At the end i think they will get into the school but still will face alot of struggles.
Up To This Point The Book Is Interesting And I Wonder What Is Going To Happen Next. The Thing In This Book That Intrigues Me The Most Is How Brave Melba's Family Is. I Think Melba's Grandmother Is Interesting Because She Reminds Me Of My Great grand Mother.I Think Melba And The 8 Others Will Be Able To Go To The School. Melba's Grandmother Always Say "God Is Always With You", I Like This Quote Because Its Telling Melba Or Anyone Else Not To Give Up. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eAfyFTzZDMM. This Video Fits Because It Tells People To Love Yourself No matter What Other People Think And That Connects With How All The White People In The Book Call Melba And Her Family Niggers And All Types Of Other Names.
ReplyDelete(JKli6)
ReplyDeleteThis book is interesting so far because of the many complications and bumps that the school is having with the integration. The fact that intrigues me is she will not give up, but can't make up her mind about anything. The grandma and Melba are the most interesting characters to me. I like her grandma because she knows what to say and when to say it, and she's always there. I like Melba because she reminds me of my family. I think the book is going to get more intense, because the mob of white people are going to be mad that they are integrating, and so are the kids in the school. So basically, there's going to be a lot of drama. I agree with KCHA7 on the quote "God is always with you". I like this quote too, because it reminds me of my religious views, and I think about it all the time. I think the song "Breakaway" by Kelly Clarkson reminds me of the book, because this is about making a breakthrough. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c-3vPxKdj6o

ReplyDeletei think the book has some very interesting parts and that it has a very big impact on people, but some people don't take this seriously, they think its a joke! i think that Melba is the one character who stands out the most to me because even though she knew she would be bothered big time for it, she signed up to go to the school anyways. she hides things from her family just to protect them from the world! the book isn't looking like it's heading in a good direction soon because of the fact that all the white people say things like "we don't want you niggers going to our school" it's horrible at least to me...
this book is important to me because it shows the struggle that most african americans had to endure my grand mother was beat simply because she was black and to me that is not right and this is the video that stood out the most because all of thttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=khrKHpID5DMhis just beecause he was black.
ReplyDeletethe wars may change but my soldiers stay eternal-tupac

ReplyDeleteI think the book to this point is very disturbing. i couldn't imagine living in the time of segregation. I think Melba is a hero for wanting to go to a white school/walking home alone. and she doesn't really know whats going on and i feel bad and i wish she understand what is going on.
TBUR5- The story is very interesting because, sometimes I wonder what it was like to have lived in those days. This books helps me to see how these days were since it was written by someone who actually had experienced it. The character I find most interesting is Melba because she is the main character and because she is the one experiencing the intergration, which would show me how it was for the kids my age durring time when segragation was in place. Its not really a line/quote that stands out to me but its more the action of the people. When Elizabeth went into school and all those white people were yelling at her and the police officers just stood there makes e just think what other things they didnt stop when the white people were acting out of line.
ReplyDelete@TDAN56
ReplyDeleteI so agree with you and the sog you picked is a great so to choose to describe this book so far it seems whatever happens to Melba and her famly she's still "not afraid".
@KCHAN
This book is empowering it gives us african american students a feel how life would've been if we were growing up during this time period. Personally I dont think I'd be able to handle it.

ReplyDeleteI think that this is a great book so far, not what has happened to the Africa Americans, but how strong Melba is. Not matter what conflict is thrown her way, she has found some way to get through it. I think that Melba is just an all around great person, she is strong respectful, and she fights for what she believes in. The quote that really stands out for me is "God is always with you" because it applies to what I believe in, and I think that it is really true. The song that reminds me of this book is "Not Afraid" By Eminen. This song reminds me of Melba and how she's not afraid to take a stand, regardless in what other people may think. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2rhPux0EIPA
Jtra7 and sbra6 sent our comments early today and we never got the vertification code so it never sent. What can we do to not get a zero on this assinment?
ReplyDelete(jlad7)
ReplyDelete@mdyb2
i feel the same way, the things that the white people would say are horrible. i wish that back then they would have understood that if we called them names like that, then they wouldn't apprectiate it.
@dvoy6
how can you say no big events have happened? the white people won't let melba or any of the other africans into central high and they are protesting, also the governor is going to court for trying to stop the africans from entering the school. in my opinion those are some big events.
(sbra6)
ReplyDeleteI think this book is getting very emotional because Melba is getting treated badly along with the rest of the blacks that are fighting for their rights. I think this book is showing how all different color races were treated back then. I think a character who stands out the most is Melba because she is strong and doesn't give up. I think this book is headed to Melba and the rest of little rock nine getting treated badly at central but facing their fears and amyb e changing history on their way. I like the quote "Warriors don't cry" because it means that you shouldn't give up and keep fighting for what you believe in. The song I chose is called "Just Stand up". Its about not giving up and fighting through all the troubles the world brings us no matter what it is.
(kwie7)
ReplyDeletei don't like this book so far. it gets me mad how there treated and some of the words in this book i would rather not see. it got me mad tht the guy tried to rape her and that there all out to get there family. i think that she'll get stronger and not give up on going to central high no matter how bad it gets and let them no nothing will stop her. the qoute that stands out is "god will always be with you" but the qoute i like best is "warriors don't cry" its like an inspiration for us reading the book because it sums up most of the book where shes staying strong.
song-walk away by kelly clarkson.
i choice this song because just like in the title she just walks away from her problems and just writes in her diary to get away from the fears of life.

ReplyDeleteThis book means to me on a "I like on do not like" bases is that I like it for the most part , there is a lil bit that I dont understand all to much but it has a nice story so far and it is easy to comprey hend. The character that I like the most is the grandmother. I like the grandmother becuse that she is someone that has something to say and what she says it alway will come back to you to chill you out. I think this book is headed to a great succes and baseicly a happy ending.
This book has been a big influence for society over many years. it shows how people have been treated in the past. melba has never back down to bring all race together in one school. at the sametime it brings trouble over her race and family. This book shows how people back then were treated based on a big story

ReplyDeleteI think the book up to this point is amazing and scary. It's amazing because it shows how hard back then it was for african americans to get their rights and what terrible things they had to go through. But I think its also scary because you have no idea what is going to happen next to Melba, or any of her friends and this is why i think it is scary. I think this book is headed for a happy ending but the ending isn't the point if it's a happy one the point is to notice and know what african americans had to go through to get their rights.
ReplyDelete(NNAG6)
ReplyDeleteThis book is very inspirational so far! It makes you really think about how good we have it today by means of being accepted for whom you are, and not having to face the discrimination that Melba had to every single day of her junior and senior school years. I find it to be sickening that the white people of Central High had no problem in using such a hurtful vocabulary so freely. It goes to show that no matter what you are put through, you should stand tall and defend what is rightfully yours. In Melba's case, she was hurting deeply on the inside but did not dare to even show an ounce of fear or depression. It looks like she really looked up to her grandmother, India, and took her advice seriously.

ReplyDeleteSo far, I feel the book, Warriors Don't Cry, is a story with a large lesson inside it. It teaches kids to be brave, stay stong, have courage and stick up for beliefs. This is something that anybody can live by. Charactors all throuout the book have proved this point. Marissa saved Melba from the angry white man who had tried to rape her because of her color. Melba had enough courage to actually sign up to go to Central High. Finally, her family was brave enough to stick up for Melba and help her along her dificult journey. I think this book will be spending a lot of time teaching kids to fight for their rights and that eventually, Melba will be successful with her dream of being equal.
i think this book is strong because its a girl going to a different school for the first time and shes putting up with all the stuff they are doing to melba. shes a strong girl letting people make fun of her and trying to kill her. melba shoulld stand up for herself and fight back the people that are hurting her and then she could be left alone and be happy be with
ReplyDeletekriz5
ReplyDeletei agree with ..kwie7
I think that it was wrong for Melba to get raped and treated so badly. My favorite quote from the book is "Warriors don't cry" as well because it makes you think. It makes me think about what I think is a warrior and who in my life I think a warrior is. I agree with kwie7 because I strongly think that Melba will become a much stronger person as the story progresses.

ReplyDeleteI think that this book has a very spechil meaning, and has a good point about how people were treated back than. But my main question why did that happend in the first place?? WHAT IF! The african americans came over and toke us to africa and we were there slaves and we were fighting for our rights as people to be treated the same way as them? How would that make us feel to know that, that one moment in time made this all happen and what if the tables were turned? No human should be treated like that.
